Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost to register a service on Hand Up?

No, it’s free to register services. Hand Up only charges a percentage of the cost of the calls you attend 🙂

Can I create services on the platform?

Anyone can create services, but you must have the ability to issue invoices to publish them since you are the service provider with your client (not Hand Up).

Further down this page, we have prepared a section regarding various options for issuing invoices on your behalf.

To ensure stability on the platform, we are gradually granting access to providers by country of fiscal residence. Currently, the allowed countries are:

– Spain

What is Hand Up's commission for calls?

The commission is smaller the higher the amount the client ultimately pays for the call.

We’re working to lower them!

This commission helps us cover the costs of our partners: scheduling, payment methods, video calling, servers, tax calculations, invoicing, emails, etc. We work hard to reduce these fees and help you achieve your goals.

  • If the amount the client pays is equal to or greater than €50, we commission 10% of that amount.
  • €10 or more, 15%
  • €5 or more, 25%
  • €1 or more, 35%
  • If the amount is less than €1, we commission the entire amount.”

When and how will I receive my earnings?

We transfer them to your bank account before the end of the month!
Income from calls over a week old will be transferred. We do this in case there are any technical issues with the more recent ones.

Are there any services not allowed on Hand Up?

Indeed, we prohibit services for reasons of morality, illegality, or if, for example, the payment gateway does not allow them.

Refer to the terms and conditions for details; for instance, you’ll find financial advice, adult content, or deceptive practices.

Who invoices the end customer, Hand Up or me?

We generate the invoice on your behalf with your details and send it to your client! We aim to make it easy for you 🙂

After the call ends, you have 4 days to modify the taxes that Quaderno (our tax calculation provider) has suggested based on the type of service, country, postal code, and customer type. After 4 days, we print the invoice and send it to the client, and it will also be available in your private area.

We will issue the invoices in a new series to keep them separate from your current ones.

Whenever you want, you can download all your issued invoices, as well as an Excel summary to assist with your tax declaration.

I am capable of offering my service in multiple languages...

So, you can create two services. When creating each service, indicate the language it’s offered in so that clients who don’t speak that language won’t see it.

Do I need to undergo any identity verification?

Yes, a quick two-minute process. To comply with anti-money laundering regulations, etc.,
Our partner Stripe will collect some of your data so that we can transfer your earnings to your bank account.

Additionally, if you wish, you can authenticate yourself with your social media credentials so that users who find you on our app can verify that you are indeed who you claim to be.

Will I be penalized if I cancel a confirmed booking with a client?

If you cancel within less than 24 hours, you’ll be penalized 5% of the amount. We do this to cover associated costs and strive to provide the best service to clients.

What are collaborators? What commission do I get?

If you believe you won’t always be able to personally attend video calls, you can include trusted collaborators to do it for you. They can be other service providers registered on HandUp whom you trust or team members trained to handle it. For each call they attend from your service, you’ll earn a commission.

👌 Recommendations for a successful service.

Title

You have only 100 characters to explain what your service is, what you can offer, and how you can help. Keep in mind that after a search, only the thumbnails of the 70 most relevant published services will be shown first; so, use keywords that you think your potential clients will use to search for your service and ensure you appear among the top results.

Description

3,000 characters, but after 130 characters, users must expand it to continue reading.

All this text is also indexed in search engines, so you’ll appear in Google or Bing searches. Therefore, remember to include keywords again.

Hourly Rate

We recommend starting with a lower price and gradually increasing it as you receive calls. This way, you’ll find the sweet spot between demand and price.

This is the price the client will pay. From this price, we’ll deduct the Hand Up commission (see FAQs). This price also includes any possible taxes or withholding taxes on your invoices.

Keep in mind that if you create multiple services, they can have different prices.

Sign up for the provider newsletter! We’ll publish which words are searched for the most at certain times of the year, prices by categories, durations that sell best, etc.

Minimum Duration

This value gives you a lot of flexibility!

💡 A low-minute value will make your “starting from” price on the card very low and attractive to clients. The downside? You need to entice your clients to extend the call if they’ve chosen the Basic rate.

The minimum duration (in minutes), multiplied by the per-minute price, must be greater than €1.

Recommended Duration

We recommend being honest with this duration and reviewing it regularly.

You can’t run out of content; the client should feel that they’re getting value.

Be aware! For clients with Basic and recommended durations, we’ll block the cost of the recommended duration on their card. Consider if this might discourage your Basic duration clients.

Tax Type

Currently, your services are created with the standard VAT rate In a few weeks, you’ll be able to select reduced or exempt VAT.

Remember that you have 4 days after the video call to modify or add taxes (which our tax calculation partner has estimated) before we generate the invoice and send it to your client.

If more than 4 days have passed and the invoice has been generated and delivered to the client, and you want to change the taxes, open a ticket from the call detail in the history. This service has a cost of €5 + VAT.

Video

The format must be MP4, and we recommend keeping the file size under 5MB for quick loading for the client.

The video name is not indexed in search engines.

Image

The ratio we use in different service cards is 3:2. If you don’t adhere to this ratio, your clients will lose content either vertically or horizontally.

💁 Various options for invoicing.

We have opened Hand Up to residents in Spain and will gradually open it to others.

Company

If you have a company, you don’t need to invoice as an individual. In “My Profile,” enter the company’s tax details.

Self-employed

If you’re not yet self-employed, there are many aids and bonuses currently available at the national (Spain) level, as well as at the autonomous and local levels. For example, in Madrid:

– You can combine unemployment benefits with self-employment.

– There’s the Zero Fee program, which offers discounts on social security contributions, among other benefits.

Foreign instrumental company

If you can’t opt for self-employment or set up a company in your country, it’s quite easy to set up a company in Delaware or Estonia.

If you’re going to attend very occasional video calls to test Hand Up

There are various sources that claim you can invoice under certain conditions without registering with the Spanish Social Security, but considering the other alternatives, we advise against this due to the limited regulation.
